A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress,Emeka Ibe ,popularly known as Onwa Mbano ,has said that the governor of Imo state,Rochas Okorocha,will not endorse his chief of staff cum son-in-law ,Uche Nwosu ,to succeed him in 2019.
According to Ibe ,the governor is too smart,politically sophisticated and intelligent to be preparing Nwosu as the next governor of the state.
There have been insinuations in some quarters in the state that Okorocha was secretly preparing Nwosu to become the next governor.
But speaking to journalists ,Ibe ,maintained that it would be counter productive and politically suicidal for Okorocha to think of anointing Nwosu as his successor.
He maintained that apart from the conjugal right Nwosu enjoys by getting married to Okorocha’s first daughter, he equally shares the same political zone with state’s chief executive.
Ibe ,asserted that any plan to make Nwosu the next governor of the state will fail,adding that Okorocha as politically smart will not make such a costly mistake.
The APC chieftain opined that it is morally and political wrong for Orlu zone where Nwosu hails from to be laying claims to the state’s diadem having had a shot on the state’s number one position for sixteen years.
“Okorocha is too smart to make such a political mistake of presenting his son in law, Uche Nwosu as his successor. The plan will not work.the masses will reject it and the governor will not like to be caught in the dark.
The Imo electorate are educated and politically aware.by2019,our democracy will be twenty years and out of these years,Orlu zone alone where Rochas Okorocha and Uche Nwosu hail from would have had sixteen years on the exalted position.
Equity ,morality and political balance demand that power moves to another zone .Orlu zone is not the only zone in Imo state.any attempt to present Uche Nwosu shall record deep resentment and rejection by the electorate and that is one thing the governor wouldn’t like to happen”. He said.
Ibe,maintained that those who are saying that Okorocha was pushing his chief of staff for governor would be disappointed when the governor would support another person that is not from Orlu zone.
He confidently posited that the state had politically overgrown the stage when an out going governor after eight years of being on the saddle will handover power to his son in law.
Onwa Mbano who hails from the Isiala Mbano LGA said that going by the political antecedents of the governor ,he has never seen Nwosu as his would be successor.
“Governor Rochas Okorocha would not like to have erroneous impression concerning his political career. Any plan to make Uche Nwosu governor in 2019 will not work .it would be rejected by God and man. Even if it would have worked not now the Igbo people including Okorocha are demanding for restructuring,political and structural balance .it won’t work at all not even at this era the governor is advocating for Igbo presidency. there is no morality at all in Nwosu becoming the next governor of the state”. Ibe summed up.
