Thanking God for the lives of their members who survived a motor accident and also praying for their quick recovery, members of the Imo State Chapter of Actors Guild of Nigeria have held a prayer section in Owerri.
Speaking after the prayer session, which took place at Bongo Center, Owerri on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, the Chairman of the guild, Comr. Nneoma Ukpabi said the major reason for the prayer was for members of the guild to thank God for saving their members, pray for their quick recovery and also plan on how to get back their damaged Coasta bus.
Comr. Nneoma Ukpabi went further to thank Hon. Chukwunonye Irouno, the Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment to Imo State Governor who swiftly intervened to direct the accident victims to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Angela Uwakwem who now have the victims receiving treatment at the state owned General Hospital Owerri.
“The way they intervened is wonderful and we are also grateful to our National President, Emeka Rollas Ejezie and his Vice Barr Ezenagu who helped offset the initial bills and ensured the damaged vehicle is towed to Okija police Station”, she said.
She however criticized the action of men of Anambra State Police Command who insisted they pay for the damages they caused on the gutter which they termed ‘Federal Government Property’ before their vehicle could be towed out the scene.
“They didn’t even care if our members were alive, their concerns were just what they can get from us at the moment. They were supposed to protect us and not rip us off the little we have knowing that we have our members lying with various injuries at the hospital”
“the police are not the only ones, Okija people didn’t help us at all, some youths took the opportunity to loot whatever they can lay their hands on. Phones, wristwatches, jewelries, money, other valuables and even drinks were made away with and it is unfair to have this act on accident victims” she said.
Comr. Nneoma Ukpabi then called on well-meaning individuals and the state government to come to their aid especially in helping their injured members and fixing their Coasta Bus.
“So far, we have done our best and I am grateful for the kind of members we have now. They have really supported in the best way they can and it is so wonderful to know we are all their for each other at the time of need”
