A police sergeant has been dismissed by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly killing a 20-year-old truck conductor, Ifeanyi Okafor.
The police sergeant, Abu Atam, was said to have killed Okafor at about 5am at a T-junction close to Okwelle police division in Onuimo local government area of Imo state.
It was gathered that the killing led the youths of the area to take law into their hands by protesting. It was reported that the Imo state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike, said Atam would be arraigned before a court soon.
Ezike said Atam alongside other police officers on duty during the incident were tried in a police orderly room in Owerri. “I can confirm that sergeant Abu Itam has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force. The police orderly room trial found him guilty of unprofessional conduct.
He is in our custody and will soon be arraigned. Other officers on duty at the time, but who were not part of the murder, were equally tried. They will be punished as well. They are likely to get demoted.

In Imo State, we are committed to upholding the IG’s principles of discipline, excellence and professionalism. We will not condone any act of insubordination,” the police commissioner said.
reported that a 25-year-old commercial bus driver, John Okoye, who allegedly drove recklessly, killed his conductor. The driver was arraigned before a magistrate court in Lagos state.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Uche Simeon, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 14, 2017, at 8pm along Iyana-Iba/Igando road, Ojo Lagos.
