In continuation of the massive demolitions going in Imo State, the State governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha is set to frustrate the lives of over a thousand students of Alvan Ikoku Federal College Of Education Owerri.
The students of the tertiary institution, living at the shell camp quarter of the college, have had their houses marked and mandated to vacate before the second day of May by the Owerri Capital Development Autority (OCDA).
In a telephone chat with yours truly, a student of the College, Chibueze Liberty, whose house has been marked, lamented that the State government decision to demolish their houses was unbelievable, and the short notice, indescribable. Chibueze said that majority of the affect students are financially handicapped to rent another apartment. He complained that most of them renewed their rents at the beginning of the year.
“This is very unfair, what have we done to Okorocha? How could he have given us just four days quit notice, he would have given us this notice at the beginning of the new so that we could use our monies to get accommodation elsewhere. Most of us paid our house rent just three months ago.
“The school will reopen next week and start exams immediately, where are we going to stay and prepare for the exams? We plead to Gov Okorocha to at least extend the deadline till the end of may because some of the students whose houses have been marked are not even in the State, majority of them travelled to be with their families while the holidays last.” Chibueze pleaded.
