Formerly scheduled for July 14, there are fresh indications that the local Government Election in Imo State may now hold on July 28, 2018.

There is no official statement from the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC on the postponement but, sources have it that the postponement may have come due to lack of logistics.

The election has been submerged in controversy, with Imo State House of Assembly had amending the law which empowered the electoral umpire to hold the elections in autonomous communities rather than electoral wards.

Another report also have it that the leading opposition political party in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may not take part in the polls, while other like Labour Party and All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA have already pulled out.

Local Government Chairmen elected in August 2010, a year before Governor Rochas Okorocha assumed office, have revived their legal dispute challenging their sack as Council Chairmen and Councillors.

A Former Chairman of ISIEC, Barr Amaechi Nwoha is challenging his removal from office in a law court suing the Imo State Government.
