Imo State House of Assembly has set up a six-man committee to probe Deputy Governor of the state, Eze Madumere.

Kennedy Ibe (APC, Obowo) was appointed to chair the panel and was subsequently directed to report to the Assembly their findings on allegation of “gross misconduct; conviction in the United States (U.S.) for theft; absence from office for three months without official permission; failure to attend required mandatory sittings at the State Executive Council and Security Council meetings in the state as required by Section 193 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Madumere’s Chief Press Secretary, Uche Onwuchekwa, while reacting to the allegations, told journalists that the petitioners were accusing his boss falsely.

He, therefore, warned against character assassination of the embattled deputy governor, who from the on-goings may likely face the consequences of impeachment as his predecessor, Jude Agbaso, sufferred some years ago.

The Guardian gathered that Madumere’s predicament began when Governor Rochas Okorocha urged him not to contest for the office of the governor, but rather should leave it for his son-in-law, Chief Uche Nwosu.

Okorocha had asked Madumere to aspire and contest for the Owerri Senatorial seat, which he rejected, leading to his alleged alignment with the coalition group of the APC in the state that organised the ward, local council and state congresses, which did not favour the governor.

The Federal High Court in Owerri had last week nullified the congresses.
