As women in various communities in Igboland celebrate the 2018 August Meeting, the women of Ezi-Irete (Autonomous) Community in Owerri West LGA of Imo State under the platform of ” Ndom Obiwuruotu Ezi-Irete, have perfected plans to launch their new cultural dance on August 25th, 2018.
The event would take place at the playground of St.Peter’s Anglican Church Ezi-Irete.
The event is expected to attract illustrious sons and daughters of the land,including some top Imo State government officials such as the Chief of Staff to the Imo State Governor, Uche Nwosu.
The launch of the cutural dance, according to the President of Ezi-Irete Women Association,Mrs. Irene Nneji is designed to celebrate the autonomous status granted the Community by the State Government.
Speaking at the palace of the Eze-Elect of Ezi-Irete Community,Mazi Joseph Uzoma Ibeh and other respected community leaders, Mrs.Nneji expressed happiness that Ezi-Irete (Autonomous) community has become a reality, saying the women decided to present their dance troupe to their hardworking husbands who ensured that the long awaited Ezi-Irete Automous status was realised.
“We are presenting our cultural dance troupe to our dear husbands so that they will know what we are presenting to the public on August 25 because it is through their efforts that we have gathered to celebrate August meeting as one entity” she said
She described the Ndi-Ndom Obiwuruotu Ezi-Irete as pillars of the community, promising that the women would always continue to support the growth of the community for peace and security of lives and properties.
She said the women came to present their new dance troupe before the traditional ruler and some of community leaders and also invited them to the 2018 August Meeting/ Launching of its Cultural Dance Troupe taking place in August 25th.
Speaking during the presentation of the cultural dance at his palace,the Eze-Elect,Mazi Ibeh expressed delight for the unity of purpose so far existing amongst the women of Ezi-Irete community, saying the community came together to seek for autonomy in order to develop at its own pace.
Expressing his profound joy, the Eze-Elect,Ibeh thanked Ndom Obiwuruotu Women for coming to present their dance troupe to him, describing it as a beautiful and talented art which is good to be showcased to the outside world.
He described Ezi-Irete as an autonomous community that has all it takes to compete with others in terms of development.
He said “we as Ezi-Irete People have already gotten our Autonomy but we are only waiting and appealing to the government to issue us our Staff of Office”
He advised married women in the community who are yet to join the women in their association to do so as there are lots of gains in belonging to such developmental associations.
