The President of the Nigeria Football Association, Amaju Pinnick, has said CAF will inspect the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, for competitions.
The 1st vice-president of CAF stated this on Wednesday when he led NFF officials on a courtesy visit to Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in Asaba.
The Stephen Keshi Stadium is hosting the African Senior Athletics Championships, which began on Wednesday.
Pinnick, who commended Okowa for completing the stadium, said the facility would remain one of the legacies of the his administration.
He said, “I want to assure you that CAF will come to check and certify the stadium for competitions and with the support of my executive committee, it will be possible.
“Nobody ever thought the Asaba Stadium, now known as the Stephen Keshi Stadium will see the light of the day. I can boldly say, it is the godliness in you (Okowa) that made you to complete this stadium.”
Okowa called for cooperation between the NFF and the private sector to boost the development of football at the grassroots.
On Asaba 2018, the governor said the athletes who were stranded at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos had arrived in Asaba.
He said, “All the athletes as of this morning (Wednesday) have been airlifted to Asaba. Initially 46 countries enlisted to participate in the Games, but,a few days ago the number of countries increased to 52. We are excited that 52 countries are participating, we are a sports-loving state and will be excited to host more world tournaments.”
