With today Saturday August 25, 2018 being the last Saturday of the month, Imolites have chosen to observe the monthly sanitation exercise rather than go to the polling stations to vote in the Local Government Elections which is taking place seven years into Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s administration.
As at 6:00am some streets in Owerri were already flooded with refuse, a monthly ritual seen on the last Saturdays of the month, while as at 10:00am, people were seen going about their usual businesses.
A Taximo driver at Mbaise Road Owerri who spoke to www.otowngist.com, said he has no business with the elections, adding that he came out because there are passengers.
A trader said; “will they give me food after staying at home today? APC will always win no matter what we do, so it’s better we go about our businesses so that it will be a win-win for us and them”
Douglass road was seen as busy as normal days with traders and drivers, while law enforcement agents like the Police were also seen on the streets as well as in Douglass Road by Mbaise Road and none of them has so far disturbed traders and drivers.
A resident of Edede Street who spoke to www.otowngist.com said the only thing he is aware of is the sanitation exercise and nothing more.
“Every other thing concern them ooh. My own na to clean my house, rest small before I go open shop. We still de beg them make them come clear all the rubbish wey people don dump for street today”
