Sixteen people died when a bus collided with a truck in Central Ethiopia, state media reported on Tuesday.
“The accident happened when a bus carrying passengers from Addis Ababa to Debre Birhan collided with a truck,’’ a local Traffic Police Chief, Sagin Lakew, was quoted as saying by Fana Broadcasting Corporate.
The accident occurred in Chacha town, some 100 kilometres from the capital Addis Ababa.
At least 20 others were injured.
“It is very likely that the death toll could climb rapidly,’’ Lakew said.
Ethiopia is investing heavily in road infrastructural projects but poorly-trained drivers, vehicles in bad condition and dilapidated roads still cause numerous deaths each year.
