Nigerian Women from all walks of life have called for support for their colleagues contesting for political posts during elections in the country.

The plea was made at the 2018 Mothers Summit held yesterday at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, organized by the wife of Anambra State Governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano with the theme, ‘Sustaining Women participation in Politics, prospects and challenges’.

The event was graced by wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of former President, Bola Obasanjo, wives of Governors of Enugu and Delta State, Monica Ugwuanyi and Edeth Okowa; Min of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, former Governor of Anambra State, Virgy Efioba, member representing Orumba South and Chairperson, House Committee on Women Affairs, Anambra House of Assembly, Nikky Ugochukwu among others.

In her speech, Obiano said the occasion would help to showcase women and their capability in management of homes, and national affairs. She enjoined women to take courage and come out to vie for any political position, arguing that women can do better in the management and running of political office if given the chance.

She praised Governor Obiano for giving her every encouragement, opportunity and back up in her endeavors, leading to her success in women empowerment.

Also speaking, Bola Obasanjo urged women to look cheerful rather than wearing gloomy faces as they play motherly roles for development of Nigeria.

She presented 200 bags of rice, 100 wrappers, 100 sets of plates and 40 prayer booklets to the attendees, saying it is to improve lives of women, widows, orphans and the less privileged in the state.
