Gubernatorial aspirants on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, platform yesterday, resolved to accept and respect the outcome of the primary election scheduled for this weekend.
Addressing the audience, the State PDP chairman, Chief Charles Babatunde Ezekwem, said that the media war between Chief Emeka Ihedioha and Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu remained a huge source of concern to PDP.
“Being the State chairman of the party, I was so worried about the situation. It is a thing of joy that they have realized that their frosty relationship will ultimately have detrimental backlash on the party if unchecked”, Ezekwem said.
It was his considered opinion that the party cannot successfully prosecute the forthcoming political battle with a divided house.
“We must move as one family and make sure that the atrocious government in Imo is removed. We cannot remove an incumbent government with a divided house. We need a strong and united house to remove the government in power”, Ezekwem reasoned.
He further explained that it took over nine hours of serious dialogue between the two political gladiators before an agreement was reached.
While promising to ensure a level playing ground for all contestants, Chief Ezekwem appealed to all public office seekers to caution their media handlers to refrain from creating internal tension in the party.
“I must warn that after this peaceful exercise, anybody that breaches this truce will be commensurately dealt with, according to the party’s constitution”, Ezekwem said.
Speaking also, Ihedioha and Anyanwu promised that the media war was over.
Introducing the event earlier, the chairman of the Imo PDP Integrity Forum, Engr. Ben Ekwueme said that the aspirants, particularly Chief Emeka Ihedioha and Senator Sam Daddy Anyanwu, said “they have unambiguously pledged that whoever emerged during the primary shall become the candidate of the party and will immediately integrate the other for a unified campaign to reclaim Douglas House by the PDP.”
