The All Progressive Congress, APC and the United Progressive Congress, UPP are on the same page in ensuring the re- election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 but that synergy is not jelling on the governorship contest in Imo State.

The two political parties seem to differ on 2019 Imo governorship.

Okorocha has vowed to remain in the APC. Reports claimed that he may back his son in law, Uche Nwosu to join another political party to continue his ambition.

Nwosu has denied such move insisting that he is the governorship candidate of the APC. But close observers assume that this lullaby may not last as members and supporters of Okorocha’s Rescue Mission are under pressure to ascertain their political fate as events in Imo APC gets more cloudy for them.

However, Okorocha at a meeting with ward Chairmen, LGA Chairmen and State Executive Committee members of the APC on Monday held at Nick’s Banquet Hall, Government House, Owerri, said he will continue to fight against political corruption in the APC. Again, he was silent on what has been agitating the minds of candidates in his camp who won primaries and their names substituted with those who did not stand in the primaries.

Okorocha rather said he will continue to fight on to stop political corruption.

He said “It is political corruption, it is fraudulent and rascally but I am fighting that. I am not fighting for myself but for all of you. It would have been easier for me to negotiate with those men at the top and come back home to relax, but I will not. I will fight to ensure that your mandate to our Party members is not robbed.

He drummed support for President Muhammadu Buhari whom he said is not aware of ugly events that went on in the party during the primary. Re echoing his support for President Buhari’s re- election is speculated to be the meeting point between the APC and the UPP in Imo State. The National Chairman of the UPP, Chekwas Okorrie had announced the party’s support for the President’s re- election.

Newspaper reports in Owerri had claimed on Monday that United Progressive Party, UPP, may be the next destination of Nwosu and those in the Rescue Mission. There was no independent verification of these allegations by this newspaper just as Mezie Imo, the campaign organization of the UPP governorship candidate in Imo State; Hon Tony Nwulu in a statement opened up on the issue.

According to the statement, the group stated “To set the records straight, Hon Tony Nwulu, the UPP governorship candidate in Imo State has no intentions whatsoever to compromise the mandate of the party willingly and freely bestowed on him by thousands of UPP members in Imo State.

“It is important to state that Nwulu is a true believer for a new order in Imo State where the lives of the citizenry will be better and enhanced than the present hunger and impoverishment ravaging the good people of Imo State.

“Hon. Nwulu has outlined a comprehensive socio economic roadmap that will restore the glory of Imo State which has been battered in the last twenty years and he will never compromise such noble initiatives for a pot of porridge or for filthy lucre”

Last Friday, the United Progressive Party, UPP adopted President Muhammadu Buhari as its presidential candidate fueling speculations that the APC and the UPP may forged a synergy in Imo State ahead of the 2019 elections.

But Mezie Imo Movement said the adoption of President Buhari by the UPP was driven by the conviction that Buhari “is the best among others aspiring to lead the country in 2019″

“The UPP being a political party that has the socio economic and political interest of Igbos at heart deemed it necessary to endorse Buhari in 2019 as a basis for an Igbo to become Nigeria’s President in 2023.

“It is very clear that only Buhari ‘s second term in 2019 is the pathway for Igbos to be on the saddle of governance of the nation in 2023 since other geo political zones have one time or the other occupied the presidency” the group stated.
