A Social Democratic Party governorship contestant in Imo State, Dr Casmir Anyanwu, on Thursday described the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to publish Chief Okey Eze as the candidate of the party for next year’s governorship election in the state, as a nullity.

Anyanwu in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja said he remained the SDP candidate and vowed to resist any attempt by INEC to illegally substitute his name with another person.

The politician who claimed to have won the SDP governorship election held in Owerri a few weeks ago said he had served INEC with a court injunction stopping it from substituting his name with any other name.

The governorship hopeful said he quickly rushed to court when he heard the rumour that the leadership of his party was planning to trade off his mandate even before INEC published Eze’s name.

He said, “A court of competent jurisdiction had restrained INEC from taking any action but the election umpire ignored the order by publishing another person’s name.

“By that action, INEC had disobeyed the court order and it has about 14 days to comply or face the consequence.”

Anyanwu, therefore, urged his supporters to remain calm as every necessary action was being taken to reverse the illegality.
