The Pioneer Chairman of Imo ENTRACO – Environmental Transformation Committee of Imo State, Hon. Chief Vitalis Enyi Ohaegbu, an engineer, has described the late former director, Administration and Finance of Imo State Government, Chief Cyprian Iwu, (rtd); a legal practitioner and Knight of the Church, variously as amiable, caring and a passionate person.
Ohaegbu who was also the former Board Chairman, ADAPalm (Nig.) Ltd., similarly referred to the late wife of Cyprian and former Dean, Students’ Affairs, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, AIFCE, Dr. Rosemary Iwu (nee Ndu) as a jolly good fellow, mother, a devout and humane lecturer who worked amiably with both the staff and students of the institution where she studied and also tutored. He gave the testimonials in Owerri in a chat with Daily Nigerian Horn on the personalities of the duo.
Ohaegbu said, “The couple impacted positively on the lives of the people they met in life. Cy was amiable, caring and passionate. He was a fine officer as a civil servant.
“Rosemary was intelligent; graduated with First-class in Biological Sciences, UNN. She was a devout lecturer; a caring mother, humane and a jolly good fellow who worked amiably with staff and students.
“They were Catholics and community lovers.”
Both husband and wife will be buried on Friday, November 9, 2018, at their home town, Umuezeala Umukabia in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.
While the man passed on on Thursday, August 21, 2018, the widow followed suit, on Saturday, September 1, 2018, about twelve days later. She was believed to have died from the shock of her spouse’s death.
The couple lived interesting lives tinged with successful careers in service to humanity.
The retired director also served in the Ministry of Agriculture, Justice, Judicial Service Commission, and was a one-time Head of Administration & Finance at Owerri North Local Government.
As a trade unionist, the late Iwu was a former vice-president, Senior Civil Servants Association.
As an influential leader of thoughts in the community, he held many chieftaincy titles and was accoladed academically in different fora in recognition of his service to humanity.
The late Iwu was educated at Eziama High School, Aba, Abia State.
He proceeded to the University of Benin, Edo State, where he graduated with a B.Sc in Sociology. He obtained his LLB and LLM both from IMSU, and subsequently got called to the Bar.
His wife, the former Dean, attended Girls’ Secondary School, Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime. She was a Senior Prefect during her set.
She proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, (AIFCE Campus), where she obtained her B. Ed. (1st-class), M. Ed., and IMSU where she obtained her PhD.
She was a Lady of the Knight of St. John’s International and held the title of the traditional Lolo.
The late Lolo Iwu was a niece to the Bishop emeritus of Orlu Diocese, His Lordship, Dr. Gregory Ochiagha.
The couple is survived by four children as well as brothers among whom are Prof. Christopher Iwu; Prof. Maurice Iwu, former Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Chief Cosmas Iwu, former Secretary to the Imo State Government (SSG) and numerous relations, including the mother of the wife.
May their souls rest in peace.
