It will no longer be the usual pageant format for the contestants of the coveted Opara Imo crown at the 2018 Ada and Opara Imo Contest as the winner of the later will be emerging from a wrestling bout.
According to an inside source, the decision is in accordance with Igbo culture, where a warrior usually wins the hand of a princess and it is believed that the major aim of the change is to add more masculinity in the contest.
The last Opara Imo, King Jason Nwabia has reigned for two years because the contest did not hold in 2017 and the 2018 edition will be offering a brand new excitement according to our source.
The next question will be whether the winner will be able to handle the pressure of being smart, making presentations and public appearances that goes with the crown.
On the other hand, Ada Imo Contest will go on as usual, with winners expected to emerge at the grand finale on Dec. 22, 2018 as the two-year reign of Queen Judith Nzubechukwu Orisaekeziem will be coming to an end that day.
