The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has charged religious leaders to remain courageous in impugning the ills of the society and calling erring leaders and members of the society to order.
The Deputy Governor gave this charge at the occasion of installation of Canons and ordination of a Priest at the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Owerri ecclesiastical province, Diocese of Ohaji-Egbema.
He particularly commended the effort of Bishop Chidi Oparaojiaku for the great work of God he has been doing in Ohaji-Egbema, especially as concerns spreading of gospel and outreach to the youths, which has brought about positive change and reducing restiveness to the barest minimum.
The Deputy Governor congratulated the newly installed canons and a Priest for choosing to serve in God’s vine yard, describing their path as very strick but very important to the development of the human characters, which is key in moulding tire patriotic citizens.
In the same vein, while fielding questions from newsmen, Madumere charged religious leaders to remain courageous, saying they are part of the conscience of the society.
“I am an Anglican and I have come to to identify with our newly installed Canons and a Priest who happens to be close to me. I have wished them well. I must say that it takes people like the religious leaders to say things the way they are without fear or favour, which he attributed to their strive to live up to God’s standard, which he described as the foundation of all good laws.”
He commended religious for always coming out to stand for the truths whenever it matters most. He, however, prayer them never to succumb to blackmail and gratification of politicians, commending them for their sense of justice in the afairs of the state, who have continued to help to shape the polity in the right direction.
