As the 2019 general elections draw close, emerging facts indicate that contrary to the optimism and confidence of party members, the Action Alliance (AA) may not win the Imo State governorship and other elections.
The AA which is the umbrella party under which the governor’s preferred candidate Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is gunning for the top job has a lot of odds stacked against its fortune.
It would be recalled that the bulk of Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s loyalists who got discredited and fell out of favour and lost serious battles with their former party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) all plunged into the Action Alliance.
Since they bulldozed their way into the party after many alleged rejections by other parties who treated them as pariahs, they have been struggling to find relevance in their new party by any means possible, fair or foul.
As at moment, there are reported stories that the governorship ticket borne by the standard bearer, Uche Nwosu may be withdrawn. This is in view of the alleged anti-party activities and the contention of the ticket by one Okolienta who purportedly secured the party’s nod at the primary election.
Besides this, information reaching Daily Nigerian Horn from all the nooks and crannies indicates that the manner the party is bulldozing its way through is dislocating the existing rotational arrangement of elective positions in some communities.
This has brought internal strife and set the communities apart leading to generation of bad blood.
For instance, in the Onuimo State Constituency, an arrangement exists where by the various constituent elements agree to take turns in the representation at the State Assembly.
What is playing out currently is that Hon Chinedu Offor currently serving and whose re-election was shut down by Owelle Rochas Okorocha under the old order of APC arrangement is now seeking re-election under the Action Alliance where as it is the turn of Umuna Community as against taking another turn for his Umuduruegbeaguru people.
The same scenario is also playing out here in the Owerri Municipal where the Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji from Umuodu is also seeking re-election where as it is the turn of another village to field a candidate for the house under the existing zonal arrangement.
Daily Nigerian Horn also gathered that Oguta people are also mired in the same destabilization plot of gabbing power arising from the alleged desperation of the AA candidates who some political pundits describe as invading hawks.
Some of the pundits describe their strength as drawing from the heavy financial support of the governor who had all along been carrying them as babies and buying their nomination forms.
Following the tense situation arising from this, the various communities have sworn never to have anything to do with the Action Alliance in terms of voting for them. What is not clear is the reason behind the desperation of the group is not respecting democratic norms which they profess with their mouth but are seen observing it only in breach.
Daily Nigerian Horn further learnt that the treatment given to Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo in Okigwe LGA may also affect the chances of AA in the LGA
Notwithstanding that Uche Nwosu is the most visible of all the candidates vying for the governorship in terms of campaign jingles, bill boards and posters and with strong financial muscles, he is still not enjoying good credibility among the electorates if reports received from the populace is anything to go by.
