There was panic on Saturday at the Practising School in Obinze, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, as an explosion rocked one of the buildings on the premises of the institution.
The explosion, Southern City News gathered, caused panic in the area as people, including worshipers, ran for safety.
An eyewitness told our correspondent on Sunday that a bomb, which was planted on a wall in the school, exploded around 7.15pm.
The eyewitness, who identified himself simply as James, said the part of the school, where the explosion occurred, was being used by a church, Jesus Discipline Fellowship, as a worship centre in the community.
He stated, “We came for prayer and discovered that the wall of the hall where we worship was tampered with.
“Out of curiosity, we started making findings and we later saw a rope covered with pipes and buried in the ground, which was connected to the wall.”
James added that when the rope was touched, the hidden device exploded.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, explained that no life was lost, adding that the substance was an explosive ordinance.
He said that the Explosive Ordinance Department of the command had condoned off the area.
The police spokesperson added that the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, had visited the scene.
Ikeokwu, however, called on the residents of the state not to panic.
