As the the game of shopping for a new speaker that will steer the saddle of 9th Assembly in Imo state hots up in the cooler, a PDP stalwart Hon Cosmas Emeka Ekpunobi has urged the governor elect Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to consider the member elect of Onuimo state constituency, Hon Paul Emeziem for Speakership.
Ekpunobi said that since the position of the speaker is coming to Okigwe zone and as it were, there is no House of Assembly PDP elect from the zone, it would be pertinent that Emeziem is made the speaker because he is PDP by blood, as one of the pioneers of the party.
The former National Assembly Press Corps chairman said that for all the errors of the outgoing administration to be easily and speedily corrected, Ihedioha needs a cooperative, vibrant and vision-packed House of Assembly leadership that will set his policies rolling for the betterment of Imo people.
Ekpunobi also said that there is a parliamentary provision that empowers Emeziem to decamp to PDP shortly after being sworn in, adding that if need be, he should decamp to PDP to get the position and serve Imo people and to as well make PDP enjoy comfortable majority in the House.
“As a two times Local Government chairman under PDP, Paul Emeziem is well experienced and has the mental and psychic capacity to handle any position thrown on his lap” he said.
Ekpunobi revealed that he is not ticking Emeziem because he is representing his constituency but because he respects authority, has experience, sound mental endowment and also has the capacity required to be the speaker of Imo House of Assembly.
