Hon. Daniel Nwafor, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in imo state has said that the incumbent governor of the state, Rochas Anayo Okorocha will exit office without any financial blemish.
Nwafor stated this in a statement availed Daily Nigerian Horn on Tuesday while reacting to the recent allegation against the state government by the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the governor has in the past few days shortly after the declaration of the winner of the guber poll in the state made withdrawal from certain banks amount of money in the tune of over N17 Bn.
The Imo APC Chairman, who described the PDP claims as baseless, laughable, unfounded and untold, said that Okorocha on the contrary will never condescend to indulge in any financial malpractice that will rob him his hard earned reputation in governance.
He further reiterated the governor’s commitment on accomplishing all his developmental promises to Imo people, stressing that, PDP should begin to map out plans on how to consolidate on Okorocha’s achievements rather than propagating falsehood; misleading and unverifiable claims.
“For the record, our party is conscious of maintaining a clean sheet in governance and can never indulge in any dealing both financial and otherwise that may rob us our stance on the fight against corruption at all levels.
“Yes, PDP as an opposition party has the right to constructively criticize the ruling government but to indulge in untold, unfounded and unverifiable allegations against the ruling government in the state is not only misleading but most unfortunate.
“Also we make bold to say that Governor Okorocha has against all odds been able to run a loan-free administration in the state. Hence, he has in many occasions challenged the financial institutions to come out and declare if his administration is owing any of them a dime.
“We are also confident that His Excellency is still fervent in his efforts of offering Imolites more development as well as complete all the ongoing projects before May 29 as he did promise Imo people.
“Governor Okorocha as we all know has no penchant for public funds and cannot compromise on his hard earned reputation to have done otherwise at the tail end of administration cum selfless services to the people.
“So, we rather advice the PDP to focus on how to justify their purported victory in the March 9 poll and to begin to map out its agenda for the Imo people if the said victory scale through the Tribunal.
“We also expect the PDP to advise its governorship candidate to acknowledge the ingenuity and leadership dexterity of Governor Okorocha and seek ways to emulate him if he eventually gets to Douglas House.
“Just like His Excellency, our great party, APC will not be distracted by any form of propaganda or allegation as we are determined in rendering the state the best of governance and leadership.
“We will only advice well meaning Imolites to disregard the calculated attempt by the PDP to mislead them about the true financial status of the government with sole aim to divert same as soon as possible.
“Imo people are wiser now and will never allow PDP plug us again into evonomic decay, developmental backwardness and all forms of impunity which characterized its previous administration in the state. The experience is still fresh in our minds.” Part of the release reads.
