Troops of 122 Task Force Battalion of Nigerian Army have killed five Boko Haram terrorists in a fierce gun battle to protect Ngwom community in Borno State.
The insurgents came with four gun trucks to overrun the Ngwom military base and community along Maiduguri-Dikwa road.
Spokesman of the Army, Col. Sagir Musa in a statement released yesterday, in Maiduguri, said the insurgents attempted to attack the same troops’ location, but spherically receded, because of troops’ stiff resistance and aggressive pursuits in military expedition.
He said that two gun trucks were captured along with two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, and five AK-47 rifles.
He added that five terrorists were killed while several others fled with gunshot wounds.
Similarly, on the same day, at about 2300 hours, troops deployed at Gulak, Adamawa State, responded to a distress call from Kubu village in Shani Local Government Area on terrorists’ activities in the village.
The bandits, according to him, engaged the troops with sporadic firing with the recovery of an AK-47 from a killed terrorist.
He said no loss of life or casualty was recorded on part of the Army.
The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, Brig-Gen. Abdulmalik Biu commended the troops. He said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Yusuf Buratai will continue to support troops in the war against terrorism and insurgency.
“You’re to maintain the counter-terrorism momentum, until remnants of insurgents are rooted out from Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad region,” he said.
