The people of Isiala Mbano and Okigwe Zone are in joyous mood as Hon. Dr. Collins Chimezie Chiji, member reelected to represent Isiala Mbano State Constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly is set to be elected as the 9th speaker.
This joy is on the basis that he is the most qualified by all standard with independency of mind to work with Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Imo State governor, on his bid to rebuild the state.
Also, the recent confirmation that the leaders and people of Okigwe zone, working on the instruction of the present government to produce a consensus speaker candidate among its ranking members for equity sake; chose Chiji considering that he is from a LGA in the zone that is yet to produce a speaker, makes it a perfect choice.
Barr Mike Ohaka explained that “of the six LGAs in the zone, Rt. Hon. Ike C Ibe from Obowo LGA was a speaker under the administration of late Evans Enwerem, Onuimo LGA produced Maxwell Duru that served under Enwerem and the current speaker, Chinedu Offor. Ihitte Uboma LGA had Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu that served on Rochas Okorocha’s first term and Acho Ihim from Okigwe LGA that just resigned over a week ago.
No matter how many hours that Lawman Duruji from Ehime Mbano LGA lasted as speaker, he would always be referred as one. Indeed, it is only Isiala Mbano that has not have a taste of it.”
Information gathered by our reporter indicated that Chiji is not resting on this latest adoption by Okigwe zone as he is said to be consulting and hobnobbing with Ihedioha led executive to ensure that there is no room for failure on this bid.
More so, he is said to be consulting with both ranking and newly elected lawmakers from other zones of the state to ensure that nothing is left untouched.
Chiji who in 1992 at the age of 30, got his Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D in Architecture from the renowned University of Reggio-Calabria, Italy, has defined himself as a refined politician that refused to support some obnoxious laws and policies of the immediate past Governor Rochas Okorocha.
His suspension at the Imo State House of Assembly for refusal to work alongside some lawmakers in supporting Okorocha’s bid to elongate his political dynasty and diversion of the state fund warmed him to the heart of the people.
As at the time of this publication, there are strong indications that Chiji will soon dump his party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA to People’s Democratic Party, PDP, which is the party of Ihedioha for realization of his speakership ambition.
