Samson Siasia will not be able to coach any team for the rest of his coaching career – The former Super Eagles midfielder has been slammed with life ban by FIFA . The former Super Eagles midfielder led the Dream Team to win bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
Siasia was said to have broken FIFA codes of ethics after accepting to receive gratification in ‘relation to the manipulation of matches’. FIFA, in the statement released on Friday, August 16, 2019 revealed that the body started investigations into the activities of the 51-year-old in February and he was said to have been found guilty by the adjudicatory chamber of their independent Ethics Committee.
The statement reveals Siasia has been found: “guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.” He was part of the Super Eagles team that won AFCON title in Tunisia 15 years ago and also represented the country at the World Cup. After retiring from football, he went into coaching and led the U23 team to win Olympic silver medal in 2008, and then clinched bronze medal in 2016.
The world football governing body confirmed he was banned for life “from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.” Siasia has also been fined CHF 50,000 ($51,051.66). ($1 = 0.9794 Swiss francs) Samson Siasia is the second Nigerian coach that will be banned in the space of one year after Salisu Yusuf.
The former Kano Pillars and Enyimba handler was caught on video collecting money from an undercover agent while in Ghana for CHAN championship last year. Former EFCC boss Mallam Nuhu Ribadu headed the comittee that investigated the matter before he was handed a one year ban.
