There was panic in Imo State on Tuesday as gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted a popular blogger in the state, Ifeanyi Onyenankeya.

Onyenankeya is the owner of the popular news blogs, Okigwe Arena and Imo Arena.

He was abducted on Monday night from his father’s compound at No. 3 Duru Close, Ekeagbara, Okigwe, a family source said.

According to the source, three gunmen abducted the blogger and escaped in a Toyota Siena.

They allegedly beat Onyenankeya before whisking him away as he was said to have initially resisted them.

A relation of the victim wrote on the social media, “This young man in the picture is by name Ifeanyi Onyenankeya from Arondizuogu in the Okigwe Local Government Area and an employee of the National Examinations Council.

“He is 6.2 feet tall, dark in complexion, slim and a Christian. He is the admin of the Okigwe Arena and Imo Arena on Facebook.

“He was kidnapped from his father’s compound at No. 3 Duru Close, Ekeagbara Okigwe, yesterday (Monday), August 12, 2019, between 7pm and 8pm by three men in mask after being brutally beaten while resisting kidnap. These men were said to have come in a Sienna vehicle.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, told our correspondent that some gunmen abducted the blogger.

He, however, stated that the command had yet to confirm if it was a case of kidnapping.

The police spokesperson said investigation had commenced with a view to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the incident.
