The Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of some major roads in the state valued at N24.34bn.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on new media, Izuchukwu Akwarandu, stated this in an interview with The PUNCH in Owerri on Thursday.
He explained that the road rehabilitation projects were part of the activities marking the governor’s ‘100 days in office’.
The governor’s aide said the memoranda of understanding between the state government and the construction firms were signed at the end of the state Executive Council meeting at Government House, Owerri.
He listed the roads to include Okpala junction, Nkume-Umuowa-Orlu, Mgbidi-Oguta, Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze, Concord-Hotel – Jacob Zuma and the Imo State Teaching Hospital.
Others are the Imo State University – Bishop Court, Aba Branch-Ahiara Junction, Okigwe Roundabout-St. Mary Okigwe, Asumpta -Umuguma Junction and Douglas-Naze Junction, among others.
He expressed the optimism that the people of the state would experience a new lease of life at the end of the constructions and rehabilitations.
He said the governor had instructed the contractors to deliver in record time,
Akwarandu said, “The Imo State Executive Council has approved an ambitious and massive 13 road rehabilitation and construction projects across the state estimated at N24.34bn as part of the first ‘100 days’ activities.
“The contracts were immediately signed inside the Sam Mbakwe Expanded Council Chambers in Owerri by the various contractors and the representatives of the state government including the Commissioner of Works, Engineer Ben Ekwueme.”
