Against the news trending in Imo State that the State Government has approved the change of name of taxis in Imo State from Taximo/Bus Imo to Imo Cab and Imo Bus, the transport committee has revealed that as at press time, the proposed change of name and colour is yet to be approved.
Speaking to www.otowngist.com, the Special Assistant on New Media to Imo State Government, Hon. Izuchukwu Akwarandu said he has clarified things with the committee in charge and the change, and it is still a proposal.
With a section of Imolites reporting on social media that the present colour of Yellow and Black is a subject court case as Imo state under Senator Rochas Okorocha copied another state, Hon. Akwarandu said the change of colour according to the committee, is to blend with the Go Green Initiative of the Rebuild Imo government.
He however added that the alleged Eighty Five Thousand Naira (N85,000) fee to be paid by cab and bus owners is a figment of the imagination of those who are saying it on social media. He said that until it is as approved by the governor, nothing is real.
Already the release of the green Imo Cab is causing a buzz on social media as Imolites are wondering how cab owners will be coping with repainting of their vehicles just less than 18 months of doing so under former Gov. Okorocha’s regime. Cab owners then paid about N50,000 to paint their vehicles in a deal with was back then rocked with receipt issuance scandal.
