The Imo State Government has opened up on some contentious issues surrounding the controversial free education programme and the construction of stadia in the 27 Local Governments of Imo State.
State Commissioner of Information, Barr Emeka Ebeliekwe in a statement, said it never authorized any Head of any State owned school to collect schools fees under any guise. He said the status quo remains in the free education policy.
“On the light of this, parents and guardians and Imo populace are advised to strongly disregard every rumour or plots to decieve the general public and pitch ndi Imo against the people orientated Rebuild Imo government..
“Consequently, the State Government through the Ministry of Education has advised parents and guardians to strictly resist any plans to impose on them any illegal expenses on them in the name of school fees and also report such unholy act to the appropriate quarters” the statement read
On the construction of Stadia in the 27 local governments in the State, the Commissioner said “the State Government is not directly funding the construction of the 27 stadia and secretariats across the State”
He said it should be noted by everyone that “that the revival and the autonomous status of every local government promised by Governor Ihedioha has taken effect, therefore Local Council Areas funds are appropriated by the local government, their contracts are awarded and funded by them”
