Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO) has disclosed its readiness to commence door to door collection of refuse across the state capital and its environs.
General Manager of the commission, Alex Emeziem disclosed this while briefing newsmen during the monthly clean-up exercise.
He also informed that the commission has opened a new dump site at Industrial Layout, off Onitsha Road.
Emeziem, an engineer said; “Right now we have relocated our dump site from the foot of Otammiri River which is very poisonous to Onitsha Road. Onitsha Road is a burrow pit. There is no river there, that is the place recommended by experts. Ministry of Works has done access road to the site and that is where we are using now”.
He said citizens were expected to buy the refuse bags from ENTRACO at a subsidized price of N50, use it to bag their wastes and bring it out in front of their gates on a day to be communicated by the government when officials of ENTRACO will go round and collect it.
He disclosed that the commission has acquired trash bins to be mounted at strategic places across the state to guarantee a seamless refuse disposal.
