In application of accountability and transparency in the day to day running of the financial businesses of Imo state government, the state internal Revenue Service (IIRS) has commenced the training of its Assessment Authority (AA) staff.
This is contained in a release issued by the PRO, Omeoga Ugomma and availed Daily Nigerian Horn.
The training which is being co-ordinated by a private consulting firm, Byteworks technology solution limited in partnership with the state government is targeted at Imo state tax payers to enroll them with a new scheme known as Imo state social Benefit Number (IMSSBN) being a unique identification number for all tax payers.
With the welcome development proper and adequate returns of all moneys accruing to the state government via direct assessment, Pay As You Earn (PAYE), self assessment of all channels of financial transactions will be ensured.
Accordingly, all unauthorized hands handling government internally generated revenue are to hands off while every money coming into; Imo’s IGR system will be captured on the byteworks platform because-of its security features.
Flagging off the training, the Executive Chairman of Imo State Internal Revenue Service, Nze Charles Onwunali advised the AAS to avail themselves of the opportunity being offered through the training and learn the techniques associated with the manning of the equipment so as to meet the demands thereof, warning that any AA; who fails to measure up to expectation will be redeployed.
He averred that government is making effort to inject a fresh blood in the state internally generated revenue system through the Rebuild Imo Mantra.
In contributing, the Director of Tax 11, Mr. Chris Nwogu explained that the objective of the programme was to get the data base of all the tax payers in the state, pointing out that before now, there were no accurate records of taxpayers and adequate deductions made from such persons income.
Adding his voice, the representative of Byteworks Technology solution limited, Mr. Chibuike Okogbue said the AAS are being trained to use the newly deployed central billing system for the transaction of taxes on assessment, issuance of automated receipts and tax clearance certificates.
He explained that the central billing system is an effective and efficient way of drawing much revenue into the state’s tax net, adding that it is central system that issues tax payers a unique tax identity number which could enable them track up their tax history and avoid unnecessary duplication of payments although he complained of disturbances from the internet which could make the process cumbersome.
