The Senator representing Orly Zone in the Senate, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has challenged Imo state Government to explain the where about of N5.2billion domiciled in Access Bank for the payment of pension arrears before his exit.
Okorocha disclosed this in a release he issued through his Special Adviser (media), Sam Onwuemeodo on Tuesday ands availed Daily Nigerian Horn.

He also described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Government in Imo state as a staggering one, adding that the government was nagging excessively.

The release further reads:

“The PDP-led government in Imo State with Chief Emeka Ihedioha as governor has not only continued to stagger, but has resorted to excessive nagging since its inauguration on May 29, 2019. The government has continued to blame former governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha for its inability or failure to make any impact since it came on board.

“We have been forced to say this now following the media report that the State Chapter of the governor’s Party, PDP, is blaming Okorocha for the gross inability of the government to fix certain roads affected by the heavy rains in some parts of the State, including the ones in and around Owerri, the State Capital.

“Imo people are aware that no government had built roads in the State than Okorocha’s government, with about 1000 kilometers of rural roads and 600 kilometers of Urban Roads to its credit. And with the rains, what the current government should do is to fix the bad spots to make them motorable and not to start nagging.

“The governments before this one had taken such steps during their times. Evans Enwerem never blamed Sam Mbakwe. Achike Udenwa never blamed Enwerem or Ikedi Ohakim blaming Udenwa, or Okorocha blaming Ohakim. They all took the bulls by the horns and never resorted to excuses like the current government does. But, when will these excuses end, with six months already gone.

“You may also be forced to ask what was the essence of setting up more than 34 Committees preceding their inauguration on May 29, 2019? This question has become necessary because from all indications, it appears that the government does not know what to do with power. No serious government takes to nagging over issues it is meant to handle.

“It is also important to use this opportunity to ask the government about the fate of the N5.2billion domiciled in Access Bank for the payment of Pension arrears before the exit of Owelle Okorocha, but the EFCC came and stopped the payment.

“After all the promises upon promises, the government announced two days ago that it would pay the Pensioners only two months. The N5.2billion in Access bank was to pay the arrears in fulfillment of Okorocha’s promise to the Pensioners that he would pay all their arrears even if it was one week to his departure as governor.

“Let EFCC authentic our claim or fault us. Or, let Access Bank confirm our claim or do otherwise. This is the way to go in a situation like the one at hand. If the government is paying the Pensioners only two months, what happened to the N5.2billion in Access bank for the payment of the Pension arrears?

“Finally, the government should stop nagging and face governance for which it was inaugurated on May 29, 2019. The people of the State have become tired of excuses. In governance, action speaks louder than excuses.”
