The apex socio-cultural group in Orlu Zone, Orluzurumee, has distanced itself from the recent courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, by a handful of individuals led by Reuben Okoro.
The group warned Okoro and his group to stop forthwith from impersonating them and deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement by the Publicity Secretary of Orluzurumee, Hon. Chidi Mmeremikwu, the group explained that Reuben Okoro has since been suspended from Orluzurumee.
“It is already in the public domain that Reuben Okoro ceased to be part of Orluzurumee since 2013. In 2012, Okoro along with Prof. David Akubukwe on behalf of Orluzurumee Cultural Union instituted a court action against Chris Esiobu and Emmanuel Amafili in suit number HOR/26/2012 at the high court in Orlu over issues of substitution of names of BoT and executive members. On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, the court, presided over by Hon. Justice C.A. Ononeze-Madu, ordered as follows, “It is the further order of this court restraining both parties from acting in any way or parading in any form as executive members of Orluzurumee Cultural Union pending the determination of the substantive suit.” This court order has not been vacated, so that it patently becomes contempt of court for Okoro to still go about talking about Orluzurumee.”
He continued, “Also, on November 5, 2015, a general assembly of the body was convened and far-reaching resolutions taken. The communiqué issued at the end of the assembly signed by all local government coordinators, women leaders, youth leaders and national executive members of Orluzurumee and published on the 11th page of Nigeria Newspoint Newspaper of Friday, November 6, 2015 suspended Reuben Okoro from Orluzurumee both as BoT Chairman and as a member.
“Till date, however, Okoro has not challenged his suspension, nor faulted the grounds upon which he was suspended. It is therefore worrisome that Okoro goes about recruiting people in the name of Orluzurumee and deceiving politicians using our name. We have tolerated this for too long but not anymore,” he vowed.
Hon. Mmeremikwu also revealed that the law enforcement agencies are already on the matter.
