Nwosu, son-in-law of the former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha and 2019 governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in the state bagged the indigeneship of the community in the build-up to the last governorship election.
Traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Eze Theophilus Uba, Oyima 1 of Oyima announced the withdrawal of the indigeneship on Tuesday at his palace.
The withdrawal was preceded by a motion moved by Chairman, Oyima Elders Forum, Joseph Anokwu requesting that Nwosu be stripped of the indigeneship of the community as resolved by the community.
Anokwu said the adoption of Chief Uche Nwosu as their son was done in error and coercion.
His motion which was supported by Ejike Emeruwa Ofurrum which was approved by all elders and indigenes present.
Eze Uba corroborated Anokwu’s stand that the adoption was a mistake and called on other monarchs who had committed such royal faux pas to summon courage and reverse their action.
The traditional ruler appealed to those who are in court with Governor Emeka Ihedioha to withdraw their cases and avoid a waste of resources.
He said that such resources should be utilized in building industries in the state, which he said will create jobs and employ the unemployed.
The Secretary to State Government, Barrister Uche Onyeagucha who visited the community, thanked the people of Umuoyima Autonomous Community for their support for Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s administration and promised that the government will continue to carter for the needs of the people of the state.
He commended them for the bold step to reverse an action they took in error and assured that they will get all their entitlements in the government of Ihedioha.
The President-General of Umuoyima Autonomous Community, Mr. Christian Anukam Azuma, maintained that Uche Nwosu is not their son.
He made it clear that his community has been loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and will remain so.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Owerri Municipal, Hon. Ebere Nwosu, applauded the action.
Nwosu wondered why somebody who was at the centre of destroying Owerri markets and buildings should be counted as their son.
He said the action was a right step in the right direction.
Earlier, the Legal Adviser to Umuoyima, Barr. Ken Uba called on the Ihehioha’s government to ensure that an indigene of Umuoyima occupies Owerri Municipal Council chairmanship seat, Imo State House of Assembly and other positions.
He noted that while these positions have been occupied at various times by people from the three other communities in Owerri Municipal, nobody from Umuoyima had tested any of the seats.
While pledging the support of Umuoyima Community to the Ihedioha administration, he thanked the governor for appointing Owerri sons, such as the Secretary to State Government and Attorney-General of the state to sensitive positions in his administration.
