The eleven man visitation panel constituted by Governor Emeka Ihedioha led administration, on Wednesday visited Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Orlu on physical inspection tour.

The panel led by Prof. Frank C. Akpuaka went round the whole departments of the institution to ascertain the present situations of structures, medical equipments, staff welfare and what the institution is lacking for recommendations to the government so as to enable standard revival of the institution.

Akpuaka while addressing workers of IMSUTH said “we have not come to witch-hunt anybody. Government has selected this very senior members of the society, the Government made it clear that this is not an inquisition team. The idea of visitation is to rejuvenate the system, find out what has not been properly done, find out your strengths and weaknesses and see how we can produce a better result.”

“You know that it’s not in your character to withdraw your services but you may have been pushed by one factor or the other. We have seen the number of equipments in a very beautiful buildings. We’re going to recommend to the Government to make use of all those beautiful buildings and make them functional so that people can travel from neighboring states to come here again.

“We will make sure that Government make you happy in times of what goes into your pockets, I’m sure even if you don’t get all you’re asking for, if you get reasonable percentage of what you’re asking for, you should come back so that we make this place what it used to be. Most of the recommendations within the limits of his resources will be met and I’m sure you will be happy to work in a hospital that functions.” he assured.

Reacting on behalf of IMSUTH Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Comr. Onyemekara Darlington who is the union chapter leader, said ” I want to sincerely thank the government for constituting this panel, that means he has goodwill for this institution, even having seen the road he is doing and the 100% he has restored is enough to give God glory.

“On behalf of the entire JOHESU members, I want to sincerely continue to thank him and belief that some of our other problems which has made us to continue on strike will be sorted out.” He prayed.
