Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), the operator of Orient FM and TV is owing its adhoc staff two months salaries, while some are owed up to seven months.
It was gathered that the adhoc staff were paid September salary two weeks ago. But investigation revealed that some of them have up to seven months salaries outstanding, due to cheques issued by the corporation which banks rejected.
While the staff of the corporation are smiling home monthly with their pay, the adhoc ones are groaning in pain due to delayed payment of salaries.
It was gathered that since the departure of Pastor Ralph Afoaku as Director General of the corporation, the government-owned media outfit has struggled to pay its adhoc staff.
“Under Barr. Ezekiel Opara as the Director General of the corporation, the adhoc staff have often seen themselves working for three months without pay. Because of the contract and not having a union, the adhoc staff cannot go on strike making them helpless in the midst of this inhumane treatment.
The management of the corporation who pays them from the internally generated revenue, has often said that a drastic drop in the IGR of the corporation has made them unable to pay. But that is a flimsy excuse”, a source said.
Some, of the adhoc staff who spoke on the condition of anonymity, called on the state governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to intervene in the matter in order to pay them.
They frowned that they do half of the jobs in the corporation and commit their best, yet owed at the end.
