Living up to the challenge of the penitious time caused by the ravaging novel Coronavirus, the lawmaker representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Idirisu Lawal has taken steps to ameliorate the hardship being faced by his constituents as a result of ‘stay at home order’ an effort of the government to tackle COVID -19 pandemic by donating generously.
The businessman turned politician had given out bags of rice, semovita alongside cash gifts to the constituents, urging them to obey the government order and other hygienic procedures so as to stay safe and end the spread of the covid – 19 pandemic.
Hon. Lawal while speaking to newsmen, he said that it is only onerous on any leader to show some care for the people at a time like this. He said his donation was borne out of love for his people.
He however expressed worries over the politicization of his gesture for the people, warning those he called vocational politicians to be sensitive enough to know when to play politics and when to unite to confront a collective problem like the present global scourge.
He said he cares less about the activities of mischief makers in so far as his conscience is clean and that the people of the constituency are happy.
His words: “According to my conscience, I chose to appreciate our people at this trying times caused by ravaging novel Coronavirus. Of course the government has taken a drastic measures to ensure that our people do not all die from the disease. That is why the federal government in concert with the States are enforcing lockdown and stay at home order’. To the best of my knowledge, this is one strategy every part of the world is using to manage the pandemic. Of course disclosure, it is not everyone that has so much to sustain them during these period. This is why I felt that it is the right thing to do to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged amongst us.
” However, it was disheartening learning that some mischievous elements are politicising the whole exercise. God knows that even outside government, I could have still done my bit in appreciation. I don’t even care as long as my people are happy and that my token of gift can sustain them for a while. I pray that God grant them wisdom to know when to hit the cord of politics and when to unite to confront a common enemy. COVID – 19 pandemic is a common enemy and we must collectively fight.”
Speaking on the effort of the National Assembly, he said” we are purposefully united. You are aware of the stimulus bill sponsored by the principal officers of the our chamber led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila. it is also in the light of fighting the scourge, covid – 19 that members of the National Assembly decided to forfeit 50% of their salaries to assist in the fight. We are ever ready to play our needed role any day for the sake of Nigerians.”
Hon. Lawal Idrisu commended the Federal led by President Buhari and Kogi State Government led by Governor Yahaya Bello for their efforts in managing the spread of the Corona virus in the country. He appealed to the people to pray for a quick end of the scourge and not to be political with efforts to provide succour to the people.
While promising effective and quality representation to the people of Ajoaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Lawal Idrisu urged for the people’s support in moving forward the Constituency.
The items distributed by the Lawmaker, which include bags of rice, Semovita and cash where given to the women, youths and elders of his Constituency.
