The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council has disowned those who purport to be stakeholders of the union in the state.
It also denied claim made by the so-called stakeholders that the union’s secretariat located along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri had been sold.
In a statement signed by state chairman, Chief Chris Akaraonye, and Juliet Dim, Secretary, the union described the so-called stakeholders who held a meeting on 25th March, 2020 as disgruntled elements who do not mean well for the union.
The so-called stakeholders had in a communique reportedly passed a vote of no confidence on the NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo.
The union stated that if the self-styled stakeholders were responsible journalists, they ought to have known that the NUJ has structures at national, zonal, state councils and chapels.
It added that they should have known that the national president has nothing to do with the day-to-day running of any state council including Imo State Council.
It therefore warned them to desist from being used to pursue a campaign of calumny against the national president or be ready to face disciplinary actions.
The union noted that the self-acclaimed stakeholders have been at the industrial court to kick against the last state council elections that produced the present executive.
It added that same persons with their allies, some who are facing investigation over forgery have been peddling rumours that Imo NUJ has sold the press centre.
