13 new Covid-19 cases in Imo State takes the tally to 303 with only Abia State behind with 302 cases in the entire South East of Nigeria.

Imo which was the last state to report a Covid-19 case in South East now takes the lead in the zone, contributing 13 out of the 490 cases reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC for June 28, 2020.

Only Enugu from South East recorded a new case with 3, while Lagos is at the top with 118 new cases, taking their total to 10,144 cases.

Out of the 303 confirmed cases in Imo State, about 86% cases at 261 are still active, with 38 recoveries (12.5%) and 4 deaths.

Nigeria has so far recorded 24,567 cases of Covid-19 with only Egypt ahead with 65,118 cases in the entire Africa.

The 490 new cases reported by NCDC in Nigeria for June 28, 2020, are distributed as thus: Lagos-118, Delta-84, Ebonyi-68, FCT-56, Plateau-39, Edo-29, Katsina-21, Imo-13, Ondo-12, Adamawa-11, Osun-8, Ogun-8, Rivers-6, Kano-5, Enugu-3, Bauchi-3, Akwa Ibom-3, Kogi-1, Oyo-1 and Bayelsa-1.

Global Tally Surpasses 10 Million

Even though Face Masks are compulsory in most Nigerian states, people still don’t take it seriously, while government has also been slow on the implementation of the law despite the rising cases of Covid-19

The global tally of Covid-19 has now passed 10 million, with more than 50% recoveries at 5.14 million and about 502 thousand deaths at the rate of 4.9%.

With a looming second wave of the pandemic, United States of America is still at the top of the global chart with 2.59 Million confirmed cases, followed by Brazil with 1.35 million cases, Russia with 641 Thousand, India with 548 thousand and United Kingdom with 311 cases.
