Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Imo State Police Command on Friday rescued four kidnap victims from the hideout of their captors in the state.

Led by their commander, the operatives stormed Ikpaoha forest located between Okigwe and Ideato South LGAs where the victims were kept.

The spokesman of the police in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu disclosed this in a statement at the weekend.

He gave the names of the freed victims to be Aminu Ibrahim, 55; Prof. Ekezie Christopher, 72; Friday Udo, 33; and Onyekachi Nwibe, 29.

Ikeokwu said the victims were rescued unhurt after the police engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle resulting in their fleeing the forest with gunshot injuries.

He further disclosed that the police recovered one English-made pump action rifle with 27 live cartridges at the kidnappers’ den.

Also recovered at the scene were Toyota spider car, with Reg no.PHC 407 AG, BLACK in colour and Honda Accord (end of discussion) with Reg no.LND 262 FM.

The police image-maker said the victims had been reunited with their families while the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the fleeing kidnappers.
