Imo State has recorded 14 new cases of Covid-19 taking their tally to 332 according to Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC.
Imo State however has 286 active cases out of the 332 haven seen 40 discharges and 6 deaths since the pandemic broke out globally.
Previously, the Chairman of Imo State Covid-19 taskforce, Prof. Maurice Iwu had expressed fear over the increasing rate of infection in the state, forcing a rumoured second lockdown which never happened in the state.
So far, Nigeria has recorded 25,694 confirmed cases of the virus with NCDC announcing 561 new cases for June 30, 2020.
Lagos state with 10,510 cases recorded 200 new cases, followed by Edo State with 119 and Kadunna State with 52 cases.
Others are FCT-52, Niger-32, Ogun-19, Ondo-16, Imo-14, Plateau-11, Abia-8, Oyo-8, Bayelsa-7, Katsina-6, Kano-5, Bauchi-3, Osun-3, Kebbi-3, Borno-2 and Jigawa-1.
134,257 Covid-19 tests have been carried out in Nigeria with 25,694 of them turning positive. 9,746 persons have recovered, leaving Nigeria with 15,358 active cases and 590 deaths.
While Nigerians were being haunted by the rumours of a second nationwide lockdown, the Federal Government announced the lifting of a ban on interstate travels which will be taking effect on July 1, 2020.
NCDC through their #TakeResponsibility campaign have urged Nigerians to observe all precautionary measures to ensure they are safe while they travel.
With the second wave of the virus hitting most countries of the world, Nigerians are yet to see the worst as it is believed that the lift on interstate travels will help spread the virus, even when it will help in fixing the dwindling economy of the country.
