The South East Coalition For Good Governance, SECG, has said for an Igbo to emerge President of Nigeria in 2023, the zone must put forward a candidate “who must be acceptable to the North, recognized in the South West and considerably known in other geo political zones in the country”

In a statement signed by President of the Coalition, Dennis Ejiofor, in Enugu, he said Nigerians, irrespective of tribe or religion, deserve to know who wants to lead them.

He said the quest by Igbo nation to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2023 is justified and will be realized if political elites in the South East constructively engage leaders of other geo political zones, to support the collective aspiration of the Igbo nation.

“Igbo alone cannot produce a President of this country in 2023. And we must understand, it is dialogue and interface with leaders of other zones that will aid in realizing a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023.

“There is need for constructive engagement. Dialogue is the key.

“Already our chances are brighter now, than before to produce the nation’s President. Whoever will emerge President of Nigeria in 2023 from Igbo nation, must be someone acceptable to one, two or three geo political zones in the country, because every geo political zone do have political choices to make during elections.

“The South East voted for Goodluck Jonathan from the South- South though he lost the election. Even Obasanjo in his first term was never voted for by the South West, but the North massively voted for him.

“For the South East to win the Presidency in 2023, we should be able to put forward a presidential material that will not only be voted for in the South East, but also be voted for and supported either in the North, the South West or any other geo political zone

“This is the right way to win the Presidency and we must assure other zones that a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction is not just overdue but ideal and conforms to the tenet of equity, justice and fairplay.

Ejiofor said the Coalition has shortlisted eleven prominent Igbo sons and daughters who posses what it takes to be President in 2023.

“Aside their qualifications and capacity, we are looking at their political value and marketability outside the shores of Igboland. Their acceptability in other zones is key. This is crucial to the success of the Igbo Presidency project” he said
