With just one official single and couple of features to her name, rapper and singer Ejiaku Clara aka Clara Yo revealed that she had already contemplated quitting music when her mother died.
The Amuzi Awaka, Owerri North LGA, Imo State born artistes in an interview with www.otowngist.com said she feels darkened in her heart because her mother was everything her dreams to become a music star needed.
“Actually I feel darkened in the heart…cos one of my music dream is to impress my mum, she’s the reason I do every damn thing, she usually encourages me, dances to everything I sing and rap and she encourages me to work hard and blow. She just wants to be a celebrity mum”, she said in light tears.
Speaking further, Clara Yo said the thought of her mother’s death has left her in-between thought of continuing and quitting music, but there are other reasons left for her to still keep pushing.
Looking at her origin and inspirations, the student of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, said she owes it her dad now and she wants to also do music because seeing that she is making people happy is one of the greatest feelings for her.
“My dad is a songwriter and a traditional musician but couldn’t accomplish his dream and seeing famous musicians on stage making people happy, I’d love to do the same”
“I’ve always had music in me since tender age, but it came alive when I attended Bossman’s music class and did a freestyle. He loved it and encouraged me to do more”
“I later won Voice of Fame first runner up in 2019 went for Owerri Rap League same year in December”, she said.
Clara Yo revealed that she never expected she would be among the winners at Voice of Fame, but it happened and has since helped her to understand that there are more to be won and also know more people within and outside the industry.
Stating that she is working on her second single, having been featured in a couple others, Clara Yo further revealed that she understands the music industry is perceived as male dominated, but she will keep striving.
She said that the male folks treat her well with enough respect and there has never been any form of harassment for her since she joined the industry.
“I keep my relationship with my make folks casual…I know their limit and I keep them there” she said.
