Many students in the examination classes on Tuesday the 4th of August resumed for classes across the state capital of Imo.

Our correspondent who went round the schools saw so many students, especially in SS3 and JS3 as well as primary six pupils in the different primary schools at the early hours of the day. Many of the students, especially in Akwakuma Girls’ Secondary School Owerri, Amakohia Primary School, Owerri and Federal Government Girls’ College Owerri, etc said they resumed in line with the various announcements on several media platforms.

Some of the teachers and principal of Federal Girls’ College Owerri, declined making comments on the school resumption. Health experts were sighted close to the school gate with infrared thermometer, testing visitors as well as students.

The situation is not the same across other secondary and Primary Schools within the municipality, as teachers were hardly seen within the school as at 10:00am. Some of the teachers who were later seen pleaded anonymity saying that they are yet to get directives from state ministry of education on school resumption.

Our correspondent further gathered that so many schools within the state capital are far from being ready for resumption, as none of them is yet to be fumigated in line with some of the stipulated guidelines for school resumption.

However, the Imo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. B.T.O. Ikegwuoha has stated that the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma is yet to give directives on school resumption.

In a statement signed and made available through his social media handle, the education commissioner cited the Federal Government as saying that state governors reserve the right to state when their respective states will queue into the school resumption. The erudite professor informed that the Governor will soon issue directives on that regard, once he is satisfied with laid down modalities in line with the Covid-19 protocols, as stipulated by the NCDC, WHO and Imo State Covid-19 Task force.
