A former Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities in Imo State, Prof Vitalis Ajumbe has advised Igbo to forget the 2023 Presidency.
He also said the zone should also stop the clamour for zoning and rotational Presidency.
Ajumbe, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC had recently backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, who said the next President of Nigeria after Buhari’s tenure ends in 2023, should be elected based on competence and not on zoning.
He said zoning breeds mediocrity against meritocracy.
The former Imo State Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, one of the legacy political parties which formed the All Progressive Congress, APC, said President Muhammadu Buhari, did not become President through zoning.
He recalled that former Governor of Imo State, now Senator, Rochas Okorocha, had vied for the presidential ticket of the APC in 2014 and lost to Muhammadu Buhari who emerged the Presidential candidate of the APC.
Ajumbe stated that the North should be allowed to produce the next President in 2023.
