Imo State government on Monday, September 7th, 2020, flagged off the COVID-19 community testing.
Flagging off the COVID-19 Community Testing in the Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, in Owerri West LGA, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Damaris Osinikwo, said the essence of the exercise is to conduct COVID-19 tests in the rural areas so as to ascertain the actual number of infected persons in the state.

According to the Commissioner, getting data on the Corona Virus pandemic is very essential to the prompt reaction of the government stressing that those who are affected will be taken to the centers or self quarantine for 14 days.

She commended the donor partners for partnering with the state government assuring Imolites that the efforts of the government in tackling the pandemic is yielding fruits.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Imo State primary Health Board, Dr. Perry Njoku stated that the COVID-19 Community testing in the state will help the state government to plan on how to further curtail the virus stressing that public enlightenment is being carried out in all the Local Governments to educate the people on the need to avail themselves for the COVID-19 Community testing.

Dr. Njoku commended governor Hope Uzodimma for his pragmatic approach towards tackling the COVID-19 pandemic stating that Imo State remains the referral point in the fight against the Corona Virus.

He equally commended donor partners for always identifying with the state revealing that the state is the first to flag off the COVID-19 Community testing.

Representatives of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, World Health Organisation, WHO, AFRICA CDC, RED CROSS, KNCV, etc, were present during the flag off.
