As the dust over the All Progressive Congress, APC Senate Primary for Okigwe zone is yet to settle, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Imo State, Marcellinus Nlemigbo, has lambasted the Screening Committee which screened the aspirants.

Recall that Dr. Lawrence Chuku, Chairman of the Screening Committee had said that the committee disqualified some aspirants before the primary including Frank Ibezim, the eventual winner of the exercise.

Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is also claiming to have won the party’s primary for Okigwe senatorial contest.

Nlemigbo however insists that the Screening Committee’s assignment ended after concluding its assignment.

A statement credited to Cajethan Duke, spokesman Imo APC,quoted Nlemigbo to have said Mr. Chuku acted out of ignorance.

He said “Chuku’s action smacks of ignorance, because the lifespan of his committee terminated immediately after the screening exercise, and as such has no more legitimacy to speak on party directives”.

According to the Party Chairman, prior to the conduct of the primary, the national caretaker/ extraordinary convention planning committee of the party, through the National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yekini Nabena made public the list of 11 screened cleared aspirants for Imo APC and wondered where Chuku and his collaborators were then.

He queried why it took Chuku more than three days after the primary election and 10 days after the screening process to come up with his disqualification remix, ostensibly orchestrated after his preferred aspirant could not make it at the party primary.

He insisted that Chuku, lacks the legitimacy and powers to speak on behalf of the party, since he is not the official spokesman of the party.
