There was panic at Anara junction in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state on Thursday, as fleeing hoodlums butchered a navel officer.
Sources in the community told our correspondent that the hoodlums who operated on few motorcycles attacked the navel officers who were on duty at the junction around 8pm on Wednesday.
While others fled, one of the officers was caught and butchered.
Our correspondent was told that the hoodlums who reportedly came from outside the community zoomed off immediately they completed their assignment.
One of the sources said ” some guys on motorcycles attacked the navel officers at Anara junction around 8pm on Wednesday. They caught one navel officer while others ran. They butchered the one they caught.
” As I speak to you, his body is in parts. His corpse is at Anara Divisional Police headquarters on Orlu expressway. This is very unfortunate.”
Our correspondent learnt that military men regrouped and invaded the community on Thursday morning which led to the disrupted of economic activities, as people including traders and villagers fled.
When contacted, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state, Chika Okoeiike, said that the government was handling the situation.
The Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the killing of the navel officer, when contacted by our correspondent on Thursday morning.
