The Nigeria Labour Congress, Imo State chapter, has issued a notice
of 8 days warning strike in the State with effect from December 21,
2020.
According to a statement by labour leaders in the State signed by NLC
Chairman, Austin Chilakpu, Trade Union Congress, TUC Chairman, Comrade
Nkim Tangban, labour said “the warning strike is necessitated by the
failure of the Imo State Government to assess the issues contained in
the 14 day ultimatum given to the Imo State Government by organized
Labour in Imo State”
According to them, the issues include “non payment, staggered payment, and under payment of Imo workers salaries since February, 2020; non payment, staggered payment and under payment of Imo pensioners since February, 2020, demand for immediate conclusion of the N30,00 National Minimum Wage negotiation in the State and its immediate implementation, and demand for the reversal of the payment of salaries to the office of Accountant General through the payroll system”
Other demands include; “demand for reversal to the office of the Accountant General under the supervision of the Head of Service of Imo State, the immediate stoppage of the use of consultants for the payment of salaries and pensions, the immediate commencement of promotion/conversion exercise, and implementation of incremental date, the implementation of the 2014 promotion exercise in the parastatals, rejection of extension of service of Retired Permanent Secretaries
Speaking at a Radio Programme in Owerri, Saturday, TUC Chairman, Imo
State, Comrade Tangban said workers in the State are no longer happy.
He said the verification, automation and digitization being undertaken by the state government has been dragging for so long.
“Labour is tired of meetings, we want agreements reached to be implemented” he said
