With feelers that the All Progressive Congress, APC is set to release dates to hold fresh congresses any moment from now, as a prelude to hold its National Convention, the forthcoming congresses, may re ignite fresh rivalry in the party in the state, as existing factions in the party, continue to jostle for its control.

The soul of Imo APC has been a thug of war, between the camp of Governor Hope Uzodimma propelled by the caretaker committee Chairman, Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo (Marcon), and another faction, backed by former Governor of the state, now senator, Rochas Okorocha.

Daniel Nwafor, backed by Senator Okorocha, is claiming the leadership of the party, on the basis of a Court of Appeal judgement he has continued to brandish as basis to be the authentic leadership of the party in the state.

Though the Nlemigbo caretaker committee has continued to enjoy the recognition of the Mai Bala Buni led national caretaker committee, the coming congresses and national convention, will afford the two warring factions in Imo APC, to flex muscles once again, in a bid to hold firmly the leadership of the party in the state.

For the Okorocha camp, the coming congress is the last straw that will break the camel’s back, as failure to take hold of the party from Uzodimma’s grip, entails seeking political refuge elsewhere, as the 2023 general elections draws close.

Analysts contend that as long as state governors continue to be influential power blocs in the APC, it will be difficult for Senator Okorocha or any one else to take control the APC in the state.

The former Governor has been lately romancing Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, fueling speculations that he may cross carpet to the PDP in due course.
