History was made today as the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Imo State chapter reelected Barr. Vivian Ottih as the chairman for the second time.
The election which took place at Imo NUJ Secretariat along Portharcourt Road Owerri, Imo State Capital had Barr. Vivian Ottih defeat her closet challenger, Dorathy Nnaji with 64 votes, while, Dorathy Nnaji polled 12 votes. This is even against all odds as sources revealed that the Commissioner for information and strategy, Mr Declan Emelumba who has severally been accused of causing problem in the parent union, allegedly attempted to impose his prefered candidate on the body but the members opposed him and went ahead to massively vote their prefered candidate.
The returning officer, Stevenie Michael who doubled as electoral Committee Chairman also announced Chika Ewurum who polled 30 votes returned as Secretary while Delight Okoronkwo won the Financial Secretary position with 60 votes, defeating her rival, Allison Gloria.
Speaking after her declaration, Barr. Vivian Ottih thanked all the NAWOJIANS for finding her worthy to be reelected, saying that she will do her best in taking the Union to the next level.
She promised the NAWOJIANS of her resolve and determination to ensure that the welfare of her colleagues is taken care of.
She reassured the women journalists of carrying them along, maintaining that she will not disappoint them for finding her worthy.
Congratulating the newly re-elected chairman and other officers, the caretaker committee chairman of the Imo NUJ, Comrade Precious Nwadike thanked Imo female journalists for conducting themselves well despite the provocation by those who vowed to scuttle the election.
He pledged to work with the new leadership in moving Imo NUJ forward, adding that Journalists should not be afraid to say or write the truth, not minding whose ox is gored.Nwadike said,only truth heals the society and as journalists we remain the mirror through which the society is viewed and we cant compromise such a role for any pecuniary benefit.
